Side income records in ten minutes a week
Small payments are easy to forget, and by tax season they're spread across apps and transfers. A short weekly routine keeps it simple, and it's ideal work for a dim hour.
Assume it counts
Side income is usually taxable, even when small or occasional. Some countries have thresholds or simplified schemes for small earners. Check your tax authority's website. In Brazil, the Receita Federal publishes guidance on self-employed income and the MEI regime.
What to write down
- Date and source of each payment
- Amount received after platform fees
- The fee charged
- Costs such as materials, postage or travel, with receipts kept
Same time each week
Pick one dim slot, say Sunday evening, and update the record there every week. Ten minutes is usually enough.
Keep it separate
A separate account for side income makes the record nearly automatic and shows clearly what the work brings in.
Ask early
If you're unsure how to declare the income, ask an accountant or the tax authority months before the deadline.
